SMSF accountants — annual administration and tax return, fully online
Financial statements, member statements, the SMSF annual return, contribution and pension tracking, and coordination of the independent audit — run on Class or BGL with data feeds, delivered entirely online.
Annual administration is $1,650/yr for a straightforward fund — cash, term deposits, listed shares and managed funds — and $2,200/yr where property, borrowings, pensions or unlisted assets add real work. The fee covers the financial statements, member statements, the annual return, contribution and pension monitoring and coordination of the independent audit; the auditor’s own fee and any actuarial certificate are passed through at cost.
Starting fresh, an SMSF establishment with corporate trustee is $1,495: trust deed, corporate trustee, ATO registrations, and the bank and rollover paperwork to bring balances across. We set every new fund up on Class or BGL Simple Fund 360 from day one, which is what makes a fully online fund practical.
For members with larger balances, we track where the fund stands against the Division 296 threshold and model contribution, pension and asset choices before the tax applies rather than after. And before each audit season, the SMSF audit checklist shows exactly what the independent auditor will ask us — and you — to produce.
Who this is for
Trustees running their own fund
You make the investment decisions — we keep the compliance and paperwork exact.
Property & LRBA funds
Funds holding property or borrowings, where valuations and loan records must line up.
Pension-phase members
Minimum drawdowns, tax-exempt income and actuarial certificates handled on time.
How it works online

Why BRS Advisory
SMSF is a discipline, not a sideline
Caps, ECPI, TBAR and borrowing rules move every year — this is daily work for us, not an annual scramble.
Class / BGL with live feeds
Data feeds mean the fund is reconciled through the year, so year-end is a review, not an archaeology dig.
Audit kept genuinely independent
Your fund is audited by an external panel auditor we brief — never by us. That is how the rules are meant to work.
Questions, answered
What does SMSF administration cost?
$1,650/year ex GST for a basic fund — cash, term deposits, listed shares, managed funds — and $2,200 for complex funds with property, borrowings, pensions or unlisted assets. The independent auditor's fee and any actuarial certificate are passed through at cost. Establishment with a corporate trustee is $1,495.
Can you give me advice on whether to start an SMSF or what to invest in?
No — that is financial product advice, which needs an Australian Financial Services Licence. We provide accounting, taxation and administration for your fund, and we can refer you to a licensed financial adviser for advice on starting a fund or investing its assets.
Who audits my fund?
An independent, ASIC-approved auditor from our external panel — never BRS Advisory, because we prepare the accounts and the rules (rightly) prohibit auditing your own work. We brief the auditor, answer their queries and don't lodge the annual return until the audit is signed.
What software do you run funds on?
Class or BGL Simple Fund 360, with data feeds from banks, brokers and wrap platforms. Feeds mean the fund is reconciled through the year, processing is accurate, and year-end becomes a review rather than a shoebox exercise.
What do you track during the year, not just at year end?
Contribution caps across both concessional and non-concessional limits, pension minimums, transfer balance account events (TBAR), and anything that needs reporting in-year. You get told before a cap is breached, when it can still be fixed.
What is Division 296 and does it affect me?
Division 296 is an additional tax on earnings attributable to total super balances above the legislated threshold. If a member is near it, we track the balance, model the impact and lay out the options with your licensed adviser before the tax applies. Ask for a Div 296 position check at onboarding.
Can you take over an existing fund?
Yes — we collect the permanent file (deed, minutes, prior statements) from your old accountant with your authority, load history into Class or BGL, and pick up from the last audited year. Behind-on-lodgement funds are quoted per outstanding year and caught up first.
My fund has property with a loan. Can you handle it?
Yes. Limited recourse borrowing arrangements, bare trusts, annual valuations and the loan records the auditor will demand are standard complex-fund work. If the structure has problems, you'll hear it from us with options — before the auditor writes it up.
