Virtual CFO services — forecasts, cash flow and board reporting without the salary

A chartered accountant in the CFO seat for a fraction of the salary: a live 12-month cash-flow forecast, budgets against actuals, a monthly board pack and a quarterly strategy session — all delivered by video and shared dashboard.

The Scale plan starts at from $1,250/mo and includes everything in Company Growth — bookkeeping, payroll, BAS and the annual accounts — plus the CFO layer: a rolling 12-month cash-flow forecast, budgets against actuals, a monthly board pack and a quarterly advisory meeting. One team runs the whole finance function, so the forecast is built on books we keep current ourselves.

The cadence is the product. Every month the pack lands before the meeting, the meeting happens by video, and the decisions get minuted with owners and due dates. Every quarter we lift to strategy: pricing and margin, funding and facilities, headcount, capex, and whether the plan still matches what you want the business to do for you.

If you’re not ready for the full retainer, start with business advisory — quarterly reviews without the monthly pack — or read a 12-month cash-flow forecast that works to see the model we build first for every client.

Questions, answered

What does a virtual CFO cost?

The Scale plan starts at $1,250/month ex GST and includes everything in Company Growth (bookkeeping, payroll, BAS, annual accounts) plus the CFO layer — rolling 12-month cash-flow forecast, budget vs actuals, monthly board pack and quarterly strategy session. Compare that with a full-time CFO salary.

What size business suits a virtual CFO?

Typically $2m–$30m turnover — big enough that cash, margin and headcount decisions carry real money, not yet big enough to justify a salaried CFO. Below that, start with business advisory; above it, we'll say so and help you hire.

What's actually in the monthly board pack?

One consistent pack — profit and loss against budget, cash position and 12-month forecast, debtors and work in progress, the five KPIs that drive your model, and a decisions page. It's built to be read in fifteen minutes and argued about for forty-five.

How is this different from what my accountant already does?

Annual accounts describe the past; CFO work steers the next twelve months. The forecast is live, the meetings are monthly, and the advice is about pricing, funding and capacity — not lodgement. Because we also run the compliance, the two never contradict each other.

Do you talk to our bank?

Yes. We prepare the figures lenders ask for, sit in on facility conversations by video, and package finance applications as fixed-quoted projects. A forecast a bank believes is one of the fastest paybacks of the whole service.

Which systems do you work with?

Xero is the base, joined to your payroll and — where relevant — job-costing or inventory system. Everything feeds one live dashboard you can open between meetings, so the board pack is a summary of what you already watched, not a monthly surprise.

Is there a minimum term?

Three months — long enough to build the forecast, run two full monthly cycles and hold the first quarterly session. After that it's month to month; the work should earn its keep every quarter, not hide behind a contract.

Can we start smaller?

Yes. Many clients begin with business advisory (quarterly cadence) or a one-off forecast build, then step up to the full monthly CFO rhythm when the growth or the bank demands it.
